At Equal Start CIC, our mission is to support children, young people, adults, and families who face barriers to accessing services, opportunities, and fair representation within their communities. We are committed to delivering inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive support that strengthens family wellbeing, improves outcomes, and promotes social equity.
WHO WE ARE

Equal Start was born out of personal experience. Founder, Shaun Buchanan, found himself on the very painful side of parental alienation. Witnessing his eldest child embarking down a tumultuous path both socially and educationally, he battled for years to gain full custody only to experience negligence and bias at the hands of systems and institutions supposedly put in place to protect the most vulnerable.
After his continued ordeal, he decided to become a part of the solution, fighting for the rights of non-resident parents. Challenging legal bodies and government institutions that are meant to protect children in a bid to implement new, fair and balanced practices to ensure that, going forward, parental alienation is no longer a dead end situation or an expected norm for non-resident parents amidst relationship breakdown.
